Costa Rica (Country Guide) Review
As with all their books, Lonely Planet is thorough for most types of Costa Rica travelers.
I found that many of the phone numbers and contact info in the book had changed, but all the recommendations for activites, lodging & resturants where still right on (a quick internet search usually brought up the most recent contact stuff anyway). Don't visit Costa Rica without this, or the most recent Lonely Planet book.

If only there was a way to give this zero stars - ORION -
I have, as I've always done when I travel, stayed in more touristy places(always safer) which this guide would make out to be an absolute nightmare. I stayed in Jaco and loved it,.. I wasn't there much. I had a rent a car and went exploring other places and even stayed in different places off the beaten path using Jaco as my base of operations. Yes I agree that Jaco was probably beautiful and serine at one point in time, however I wouldn't trade the safety in numbers for a cabin in the woods,..never! I would consider myself well traveled and if you are too, you already have the powers of deduction and probably don't need the obvious stated to you. Have fun and enjoy Costa Rica without big brother telling you your contributing to the destruction of the country. I assure you the locals would rather have our money. Are Americans destroying the country, or is it the locals trying to feed their families pandering to tourists? The answer is neither Mathew Firestone, that's the word we live in and if you need to indulge your lust for poverty and untouched beauty than I have a suggestion for you, Somalia. It is still very untouched by American tourism and is a beautiful country to boot!
Lonely Planet Guide to CR is the ONLY book you need - Embee - Nebraska USA
Don't buy any other books. This one is the only one you need to get along well in Costa Rica. It provides specific information....like the location of bus stations! Also nicely woven into it is cultural information that will help you blend in, maybe, a bit better.
INCORRECT INFORMATION! - nylagoer - Santa Monica, CA
this book was only okay. We found several errors, ranging from an incorrectly placed restaurant address (we drove around and around until we asked someone) and, less importantly, old information about a B&B that had changed owners at least five years ago, but the description still contained the previous owners... did the author even bother to check? I have always taken Lonely Planet with a grain of salt, so I would take an extra guide with you. Frommers did a better job on this.
