Thailand Handbook, 7th: Travel guide to Thailand (Footprint Thailand Handbook) Review
This is a very thorough and excellant guidebook to Thailand by a team of writers who have not only traveled to every nook and cranny of Thailand but who bring a highly tuned intelligence and sensibility to their task. I have taken note of the two extreme negative reviews and it seems to me that they are both written by a person or persons with an axe to grind and some hidden agenda.
Thailand Handbook, 7th: Travel guide to Thailand (Footprint Thailand Handbook) Overview
Thailand is a kingdom where Buddhism meets hedonism. Party on palm-fringed beaches, shop till you drop in Bangkok, and discover the wats and temples of Thonburi, erstwhile capital of ancient Siam. Footprint’s fully revised and updated seventh edition takes travelers off the beaten path—whether they fancy trekking in the north or finding their very own little piece of paradise on the islands in the south—while providing all the essentials on where to eat, sleep, drink, and party.

Customer Reviews
Garbage - S. Boles -
Much of the information in this book regarding transit and sites of interest was simply wrong. For example, regarding visiting the Grand Palace in Bangkok, the book says the ticket office is closed from 11-1:30. This was not true. However, if you talk to a local tuk-tuk driver who wants to scam you in some way, he will concur with the book.
The maps were virtually useless and you're better off picking up a free map at the local tourist office.
The only things decently written in the book are the history sections which appear to be quite thorough. However, considering the glaring errors in the other sections the accuracy of these chapters is suspect.
Dead weight - ken -
Riddled with errors (approx. one per page in the sections I used). Incomprehensibly written. Poorly organized. Maps only feature hotels and restaurants, not sights. This holds true for their Thailand, Laos, Vietnam volumes.
